“Binda Trophy 2016″: the 20 best teams in the world are invited and 5 wild cards

The list of participants at the next edition of the Alfredo Binda Trophy – Comune di Cittiglio, which will take place on Sunday 20 March, is starting to take shape. The reform of the women’s international athletic calendar, which is now exactly the same as the men’s, means that the best twenty teams in the world are automatically invited to the World Tour races, such as the Binda Trophy. As of today, almost all of the teams in the UCI classification ( http://www.uci.ch/pressreleases/registration-and-automatic-invitations-teams-for-the-uci-women-worldtour-206/ ) have replied positively to Cycling Sport Promotion’s invitation. But there’s more: “Yes – announced the president, Mario Minervino – apart from the first twenty teams in the world, we can invite five more teams which will be selected according to very stringent criteria. The five ‘wild card’ teams will be announced on 20 February, during the official presentation of the 18th edition of the Alfredo Binda Trophy. Lots of new initiatives will also be revealed on that occasion.”

An excellent line-up is also foreseen for the 4th Da Moreno or ”Mini-Binda Trophy”, an International race for junior women, that will take place just a few hours before the elite race: “Apart from all the Italian teams, we have invited five top level foreign teams. – Mario Minervino pointed out – Our race allows younger women to confront each other at the start of the season, without having to wait until the European and World Championships, thanks to this idea that we launched four years ago and which is much appreciated worldwide”. Cycling Sport Promotion calendar 2016

Cycling Sport Promotion will organise three international events again in 2016, as established by the International Cycling Union (UCI) with the publication of their calendar of athletic events for the upcoming season.

“The UCI has acknowledged the value of the events organised by Cycling Sport Promotion – commented president, Mario Minervino – in 2016 we will once again regale the province of Varese with three top level races: the Trofeo Binda for women, the Trofeo Da Moreno for junior women and the Trofeo Almar – Nation’s Cup for riders under 23. However, there are some changes regarding the dates for next year. The two women’s races will be held a week earlier, on Sunday 20 March, the day after the Milano-San Remo. We believe in women’s cycling and we agreed to bring our traditional date forward to allow the Gent Wevelgem women’s race to enjoy maximum media coverage as it will take place on the same day as the men’s race. We were also able to move the U23 Nation’s Cup forward so as to avoid a clash with the Tour de France”.

From tomorrow, with the new calendar on hand, Cycling Sport Promotion, Mario Minervino and his outstanding team will start working to set up this new bouquet of events on two wheels. (Photo F. Ossola)
